Hi All,
My name's Vanessa. I'm a 24y/o Aussie and have just gone back to uni to study psychology. (Wondering what I've gotten myself into at the moment:eek:, but oh well) I own 1 axolotl, Jet. She's my first and she's so cute. One day I hope to get a mate for her. I thought this would be the perfect place to sign up and get tips for keeping her healthy and happy (which at the moment she isnt :( - I've posted a thread in the 'Sick Axolotl' sub-forum if anyone's got some time to help).

Anyway, just wanted to say hi and introduce myself.

hi vanessa

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
