Hey, I'mLexie, I live in New Zealand. I am in Hawkes Bay. I have recently adopted two axolotls, a golden one called Nim-a-Nim and a wild type one called Onyx. Two girls I believe although it is early days yet so I am not certain. I have one qestion for axolotl keepers, my axolotl, Onyx, has a lump on the side of her head. Is it a birth defect or a disease/sickness of somekind?? Please help!!

Hi and welcome! To best answer your question, please post under sick axolotl with a pic. Somebody out here should be able to help you out. Love the names by the way! :)

thank you, i have now posted it under sick axolotl but am unable to get a picture at this time. I will try again tomorrow but Onyx can be shy. Thank you, I like the names to, hahaha. ;)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
