I have 2 axies, male and female, my female seems to be picking on my male. They live in a 4ft custom tank. Tonight when I was feeding them, she swam over and bit him on the leg. Now he isnt using his leg. Should I be worried?

Were they eating next to each other? and what were they eating? when I feed mine bloodworm if they eat close to one another they sometimes think a foot or gill is bloodworm and nip each other! Do you see any visible damage to the leg?, have you seen him using it? Is the leg swollen? I have no experience with leg injuries you should try to take a picture maybe people will be able to tell you if it is broken.

Also are they similar size? have you seen any other aggressive behaviour?

Hopefully he has no damage. in future try feeding on separate sides or by hand if possible, but, again post a couple pictures.

His leg looks ok and he seems to be using it. I feed them at opposite ends of the tank but the bully/guts always swims over to the other one.
They are both the same size. I will post a pic it starts to look different.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
