I've read the articles on CC and it's clear about the minimum sized tank needed. But I can't find any formula for housing more than two fire sals in a tank (adult size that is).

I know you need a minimum of 45x30x35 for a pair, with 60x30x35 prefered. Well, that's what's written on the CC article and it seems to agree with most of what I've read. But how much extra space would you be wanting for a third or fourth sal? Is the some useful formula? Like a minimum space for two + Xcm more per extra sal?

Part of the reason is that I'm picking up a 90x30x30 tank tomorrow, and I was wondering how many could/should be kept in that?

Thanks.

assuming your measurements are LxWxH i would say that a 3rd salamander would fine, just a guess based on the minimum and the preffered i would guestimate that the minimum space requirement per sal is between 25/30Lx15Wx20H(as height is less important).

Yeah, LWH, all dimensions in cm.

Thanks, I was thinking 3 would make sense, but you never know. Though I wouldn't agree with 15cmW per sal, sure they're bendy, but they grow over 15cm often.

oh, wow, i didn't think they could get so wide O.O; in that case it would be safe to go 30W for the initial sal and with 15W being added for the second and 5W being added for each sal there after.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
