Hi,

i recently noticed that my newt would make a sudden move/jerk and scratch its body using its hind leg frantically. im kinda worried cause ive never seen him like this before.

i do not see any fungus like stuff or bumps on his body. he would do that 4-5 times in a period of 5-10mins..

here he is in "action" :

****NOTE : The whitish stuff on his body are actually stains on the tank glass. ****

should i be worried ? is anything life threatening is about to happen? :(

he eats well though.

Thank u in advance.

He might just be "stretching" to loosen skin prior to a shedding, or it could be something as simple as he is itchy lol.

That is strange.
What type of fish is that in there with the newt?

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
