Hello there,
Two of our axolotls has had a natural metamorphosis :D they have not reach sexual maturity. Does anyone know how soon they must go on land, what kind of living space do they need, what kind of food, and do they need special care or other things we should know or do? And how could this happen? We have 4 axolotls, two wildcolor who are salamanders now, and two albino's but they are not metamorphosing yet. I’m also very curious what triggered the change, so if some one has suggestions it would be nice to hear?
thanks!

If you look across the top of the page, there is a green bar with a search tab. This will link you to other posts. Axolotl metamorphosis tends to triggered by poor living conditions..there are the occasional exceptions. The link below may be informative.

Would you be able to provide a little more information about their tank set up, diet and photos would be fantastic.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
