Hi all! As you can tell, I'm new to this forum... and actually, I'm new to salamanders, newts, and axolotls. Here is my story. I was following my dog around my property when she stopped at the creek and layed down. So I decided to look around in the water. Thats when I noticed tthis cool looking this swimming around in the water. It looked like a salamander but with gills. I wated to know what it was ( i still don't know where can i post about that?) so I got on the computer and typed in "Salamanders" and I was really intrigued with how cool they were. Then I found this forum and I registered because I fell in love with those little guys. So that;s where I am now.

Hi and Welcome! You are so fortunate to find salamanders so close by! You can post your pics under the "Newt and Salamander Help" topic, someone should be able to ID those for you. I can only tell you what it was not - an axolotl. However, there are many, many other possibilities - naming the general location of your creek might help too. Good luck!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
