Ok my cycle finished on my tank a couple of weeks ago and I havent yet done a water change since. I have added about 25% extra water, but the Nitrate doesn't seem to be increasing, its still at 5ppm according to my test kit.

My Ammonia and Nitrite are pretty much 0. and my Nitrate is at 5ppm.

How much should I be expecting this to change?

I'm a bit worried that it seems too easy. lol

Hey. I have 2 Alpine newt juveniles that I got from Morg a couple of months back.

They are still quite young but one has just decided to go aquatic and is already getting the amazing colours. The other one is still a bit smaller and still clings onto the cork bark and rarely goes in the water.

I think I'll just do 20% water changes every fortnight and keep an eye on the nitrate. Hopefully that will stop anything strange happening.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
