Hi
my axie has had one of his gills biten off by my other axie I am really worried that he die now as they dint they need them to breathe his acting okay and eating through x x

He should be fine as long as your axie is acting normal there shouldnt be anything to worry about your axie breathes through its skin and lungs as well as whats left of its gills, providing the axie is kept stress free and the water quality is good its gill will grow back! If there is frequent aggression with your axies consider splitting them or getting a bigger tank!

Fridging will help him relax a little. check for fungus on the wound make sure it is nice and clean

my axie has had his left gills eaten and they never grew back, however he's quite normal

Yeah i have heard that younger smaller axolotls have better regenerative abilities than adults so may not grow back but then again they might depends if your axie can be bothered to grow a new one I guess haha! Ur axie can still breathe tho so no worries!

Ive always wondered how the hell axies bite each others gills and legs off as they dont have any ripping and tearing teeth, is their skin and flesh just that delicate that parts can just be pulled or torn off?

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
