Hi all,
About a week ago my axie somehow managed to crawl out of her tank, so she spent an unknown time on dry land. A friend of mine (the same person who gave me my axie) told me to put her (the axie of course) in the fridge immediately. So she has been in there, shedding her skin for a week now. She didn't appear to be ill or anything, though she did lose a little weight. However, this morning part of her side was swollen and a little red. I'm pretty sure she wasn't wounded when I put her in the fridge, could it be cyst or something like that?

thanks!

Here are some photos, the quality is pretty bad (taken with a crappy cellphone):

Doesn't seem too bad, is she eating? What kind of substrate was she on? And what do you mean "crawled out of the tank"?

She eats very little, bloodworms mostly.
I use sand as a substrate, the regular sand you buy at a hardware store.
To be honest I have no idea how she managed to get out of the tank, she could have jumped.

This morning a got a better look at her belly, and she has a brown/red spot (about half a cm) above one of her hind legs :(. I will take a picture when I get home, but it's scaring me.

She is still in the fridge? And do you daily 100% water changes with dechlorinated water?

first of all, thanks for your help:)
yes, she is still in the fridge, I changed the water daily with dechlorinated water, it was hard to see whether the patches were internal or external. I'll post some pics when I have a better camera.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
