I´ve read that Henk breed these in the past when they were placed as Pachytriton C or D. I think, at laest by those (only pics of the species) they would really petter placed as a Pachytriton... They do not resemble Paramesotritons but do really much resemble pachytritons!.. Kind off weird...
Cheers,
They really do look astonishingly like Pachytriton...
It´s kind of like a Paramesotriton/pachytriton hybrid...the head, belly, etc, are Pachytriton....but the vertebral ridge, the tail....are Paramesotriton...very weird!
Thanx for posting! It´s good to know they keep studying asian newts.
Now, not-so-new. This species is now Paramesotriton labiatus because specimens from the same location were originally named Pachytriton labiatus...but were not Pachytriton! Pachytriton from the same location have been redescribed as Pachytriton inexpectatus.
Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation
Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
