Hi there
Although I've been a member here for almost a year, I've made no posts yet, as I'm still Axolotless.
I had planned to buy one a year ago and found the site, but the time has not been right until now!
I'm at the moment looking for one to adopt and plan to get one in the London region this month.
The tank and everything has been in place for almost a year and need a new lodger (or maybe two)
I'm looking forward to it.

Well I finally got my new friend a couple of days ago and he's settling in nicely.
Thanks to tomkeogh.
I've added the pics to my profile and although he's small at the moment, I'm sure he'll be larger soon enough.
He's too small for the tank at the moment at just under 6cm, so he's staying in a temp home.
He'd never find the food in the large tank. I'll wait a cm or more.

Well he was a long time arriving, but seems settled now.

He's not eating a lot, probably settling in. I'm feeding him live food. I've not seen him eating a bloodworm, but I saw him eating a daphnia and a brine shrimp.
I think he's more active when its dark and no ones around though
To be honest I wish he'd eat more.
It's hard to tell whats worm and whats been through his digestive system though.
Is is active though and zips around his bowl occasionally.

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
