At what size is a Male Cynops Orientalis considered a sub-Adult?

Hi Zac,
A lot of factors would determine this, but my 50+ juveniles began morphing a year ago. The others are a couple of months younger. Some of them are about 4 - 4.5 cm at this time. Some eat better than others. I try to regroup them based on size every so often, so the smaller ones have the same chance to hunt their prey as the larger, more aggressive ones.
Mine do not seem ready to return to the water, however. I wouldn't consider them "adults" until they are aquatic again.

If your newt came from a pet shop, Zac, there is no way of knowing. Growth rates can vary widely. If you can tell that it's male, then I would say that it's a sub-adult (or even adult) regardless of size.

Thorninmyside:Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation+1

Clareclare:Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?+1
