Until a more experienced person can give you some advice, it may help to put your axolotl into a smaller container somewhere cool so that she can touch the bottom and still be in water, as they find it stressful when they're stuck floating. Is the bubble under her skin or in her gut? The more information you can provide, the more luck someone has of helping you out.
I would probably take her to a vet straight away just to be safe. Make sure they specialise in amphibians/exotic pets. Axolotls can be affected by a variety of fluid retention problems, but they can be caused by a diverse range of conditions so a vet might know best (the exact cause and how to treat it).
Photos of the condition would be helpful in case anyone else has seen something similar before.
Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation
Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
