I rang up the Hollywood fish farm in Albany, Auckland a couple of days ago and found out a wonderful discovery! I went up there this afternoon and bought me 2, healthy, fat 5-5.5 cm aquatic juvenile Cynops Orientalis! I was stunned, not only at the size, but the condition they were in. They were treated like royalty! Absolute pleasure to see. I took them home to find out they jumped straight into the water without no stress with my older newt.

They look to me like young adults. Just wanted to recommend this store to anyone looking for newts. There's about 1 or 2 left. ARRGGHH I'm so happy!

That's good to hear they were in such great shape, but you should quarantine the animals for about a month before introducing them into the tank with your other animals.

Yeah you should definately quarenteen next time.. Im sure by now any damage that will be done IS done, so keep your fingers crossed

Anyways, great to hear! Good luck. Post pictures please?:proud:

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
