My juvenile axie has a tear near the end of his tail. I just noticed it today while changing his water. He is alone in the tank so it wasn't caused by another axie. I'm worried about it getting worse or if it will grow back. Is there anything I can do to help him heal? I am very worried about him.

the tear will heal itself.....just give it time.....but make sure you have good, clean, cool water .......keep an eye out for fungus.....good luck

As Lea said, just keep an eye on him and he should be fine. In case you didn't know, the fungus that she mentions looks like cotton so if you see this, you can post a pic for verification and someone will let you know what to do next.

If this tear has just occurred, you may want to look around his tank to see if anything has a sharp edge that could have caused the injury to prevent others. Take care.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
