My juvenile axolotl has a dislocated or broken leg. I bought him like this and he shows no sign of stress and is still eating. Should I do anything or just leave him?

Thanks for your help

Can you post some pictures? It could be a deformity in which case he should be fine :)

I tend to let nature take its course. I have a gold axolotl that must have been injured at some time. When it healed itself it looks like the right elbow bends the wrong way. It is perfectly healthy. I suppose a case could be made for removing the leg or part of the leg. The intention would be to have it grow back normal. I wouldn't do it.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
