Hi i think my axolotl ate some gravel about 3 weeks ago. Since then he has not eaten anything and has not gone to the toilet. He is also floating unless water level is reduced. And holds its side sometimes like we do when in pain. I have tried fridging and he seems less stressed but he still does not poo or eat. I don't know what else to do. He seems uncomfortable today. Is there anything else you can do to get the gravel to move?

Hi,

Sorry to hear about your little one. How big was the gravel? How long have you had him in the fridge? Could you post a pic?

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
