Fire bellied newt larvae questions

I have 3 fire bellied newt larvae that are approaching metamorphosis. I was wondering what to feed the newts once they have metamorphosed. Also, what is the appropriate setup for juveniles? I want to give them the best possible care so they can survive. I may sound like an idiot, but I focus more on raising and breeding other animals, and I'm only in my teens.

Welcome! That article was my lifeline this past year + when my C. orientalis reproduced - I wasn't expecting it. Azhael's been a great source, along with many other members here.

I really worried at first about my larvae when they morphed. It took weeks for them to eat, though I may not have seen them eating, of course. I fed mine springtails and flightless fruit flies. Some of mine are just returning to the water. Earthworms are a great staple for these animals and I often dusted their food with calcium.

Good luck - no one thinks you're an idiot! Keep the questions coming - that's how we all learned at some point.

Thanks:) the website was very helpful, but i still have a question. Since I live in China, the supplies in the pet market are very limited, so I cant get live foods like fruit flies, etc. Can I just feed them chopped up earthworms as soon as they leave water?

Yep, although they may take a while to get used to hand-feeding. You should probably start with tiny earthworms then move on to pieces of bigger ones as they settle in.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
