Hi

I wanted to know how long it takes for Spanish Ribbed Newts to reach their max size?
And when they reach their sexual maturity and starts breeding?

Also at what age it's considered as an adult and come out to land?
I have 3 which are about 4-5 months old and except sticking their head out of the water once in a while , I haven't seen them on land so I guess they are still juveniles

Thanks In Advance ,
Gutz

The maximum size is reached when they die xD
They grow their whole lives, being cold blood animals, so the older, the larger.
They can reach sexual maturity in a bit less than a year, although it usually takes them a bit longer, specially for females.

They are considered to be adults when they become sexually mature, which is anywhere from 10 months to 3 years. They won´t go out of the water as long as conditions are good. They are 100% aquatic in captivity (and in the wild given the right conditions).

Thanks Azhael
So it's not worth setting up a land area for them?

Definitely not.
Just make sure you offer lots of aquatic space.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
