Hi.

Is it OK to take an axolotl out and put it in a smaller tank to feed, and then return it to its big tank so as not to get mess in the tank? I have heard of others doing this but is it a bad idea?

Thanks

Some people do this with no problems but to me it seems it is an unneeded stress factor.

I agree, some axies can deal with this sort of thing fine but I wouldn't recommend it. It's a stress that can be unavoidable :)

Ok yeah. I am glad I asked before doing it :)

I have a feeding jar in my tank and it works wonders. The food stays in the jar and not all ove the tank.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
