Hi everyone, I can't believe this forum, I have been looking forever for a place filled with people who love these little guys as much as I do and here you've been all along. I have been keeping various salamanders all my life and would spend every waking hour during summer holidays looking for them, drawing maps and making notes on the habitat I found them in. I have been really saddened by the disappearance of them from most of the places I used to find them in. My mother would only let me keep one, a tiger that was missing one front leg, his name was Lamar and he was with me for nine years until his death. He was a star in my neighborhood and would get pounds of bugs caught for him by the local kids in exchange for watching him eat. He helped me form new friendships that are still going strong thirty years later and I'm hoping to form new friendships with some grownup kids just like myself. Sorry if I'm long winded, I'm just excited to be a part of your community.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
