Hi everyone. I've been using caudata.org for info on my newt collection for a while now and recently joined. Thought I should say Hi!

I have a small collection consisting of four Chinese fire-bellies (C. orientalis) called D'Artagnan, Snockrigg, Merlin and Steve McQueen.

Also have an adult axolotl called Wilson, who I actually think is female but after years of referring to her as a 'he' I've decided to overlook this fact and continue to label her as a him!

My most recent addition to the collection is a Chinese warty newt (P. chinensis) called Cerberus. Originally he was called Gilbert before he attacked and killed his other tank-mates, and thus re-named after the demon dog of hell... but he is still beloved

There's also a fish called Spalding which lives in a tank by the TV and enjoys watching BBC News 24...

Look forward to future discussions with fellow newt and salamander enthusiasts!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
