I have taken a great interest in tiger salamanders and axolotls since my 8 year old tarantula passes last week..... I have a 75 gallon aquarium that I think might be perfect for one or two or more!!!

I just cant make up my mind which one I want, but I'm leaning towards the axolotl....which type should I start out with??? I would like to have a variety of colors as I get more experienced.... I've raised a red boa and it died of old age and I've raised a tarantula and she just passed...I've never had an amphibian before, but I have a feeling this is the right place to learn.... I plan on doing a lot of research before I dive in and throw some water and rocks in a tank, not having a clue, just to murder the little guy...

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
