My axie has been listing/rolling onto his right side for the past little while. He seems a little floaty, but then he always has been like that. He looks prefectly normal, otherwise, and has been eating normally, etc. Anybody know what;s with the side thing, and if I ought to be worried? Anything to be done? Thanks.

Hi there,

Is your axie a juvie? Juveniles tend to float around a bit and can be a little off balance from time to time. Does he have difficulty reaching the bottom on his own? Can he stay down if he wants or does he seem to have difficulty remaining on the bottom.

Do a set of parameters (pH, ammonia, nitrite/nitrate) just to rule out any problems there. What's the substrate? What is his diet? Sorry for the questions, just trying to rule out any outside issues.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
