Hi there, my name is Allison and im new to Caudata and a brand new Axolotl owner :3. I've been reading everywhere about the little guys and i kept on coming across this site and its acclaim to being one of the best newt and salamander sites so i just had to join!
Any advice on axolotls would be greatly welcomed, i've learned as much as i can from websites but from other owners is always the best way to get all the information you need :D.

Hi, Allison!

Welcome to the site.

Be forewarned: axolotls are highly addictive! ;)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
