Hi All,im jono ,and about three years ago bought a 1.3 m fish tank complete with large fishes,my brother is selling his 3 ft tank with four med size axolotals with a internal filter and im looking forward in doing some tank landscaping with rocks some plants also some tunnels ,maybe those glazed terracotta pipes.im a member of auckland fish club ,and some members have 4 to 5 plus tanks .since im going to pick up both the tank and axolotals at the same time.would be a good idea to put some water aside or even mix some water from the fish tank so i can cycle the water , the water is pretty good over here hardly any impureties. Thanks

Hello fellow Kiwi,

If your water is cycled in your tank that you are getting your axies ready for, then just leave it in there.

Welcome to Caudata :)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
