Hi everyone i just have a quick question.

A friend of mine (after seeing and learning about the little axies i was getting :3 ) was thinking of getting an axolotl of her own, but she asked me if it was possible to have other amphibians along with the axolotl in the same tank.
I wasn't quite sure, i haven't read anything of that nature on any of the reading i've done (only about fish and what-not) so i was wondering if it was possible to allow axies to have amphibious tank mates?
And if so what kinds do you think would be best for them?

Thanks!

Get another axolotl. Nothing wrong with another axolotl if there's enough room. If you want another amphibian, just get another tank for it.

Yeah dont bother, not safe at all, amphibains secrete toxins from their skin that could be harmful to other amphibians!

Im so glad people ask on here before going ahead with things, im sure if this site diddnt exist there would be sooooo many axie disasters! well done everyone!

Before recommending that she get two axolotls, find out why she wanted to put in other amphibians. If it's that she thinks one axolotl will be lonely by itself, remind her that amphibians and reptiles are generally a lot less social than humans. They really don't need companionship in the way that we do. If it's that she wants a tank with diverse-looking species, either recommend that she look into two axolotls of different colors, or see if she's interested in reading up on tropical fish, which might be a better route for those who like tanks full of different things to look at. (There won't be any species of reptile or amphibian that shouldn't be kept in a species-specific tank. With fish, it's a different matter.)

Thanks everyone! Ill be sure to tell her its a no go on amphibians with axolotls. She had this idea in her head to want a tank with just amphibians in it and wanted an axolotl too.
Ill make sure to tell her everything :D

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
