Well I'm new to the forum and thought I would share how it all started......... Well I have always loved fish and keep tropical and cold water tanks and one day came across a axolotl in the aquatics store..... And that was it I was hooked, my first was a black axie called slinky and he lived in the cold water tank with my fish.......I was fascinated by him and watched him all the time to the dismay of my hubby lol. So it all began.. A new 4 foot tank and washing of sand and research and then finally 3 more friends for slinky ... Honey poppy and bruiser ........ Absolutly love them

That's usually how it happens. I own 3 axies now too, and I hope to raise some eggs to get my fourth. :)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
