Just wondering if my tank size 30x12x18 is big enough for a Pleurodeles waltl or maybe two?.
Think guy mentioned they're about 100mm long at the moment.
I will be upgrading eventually, once i find a new flat. A friend of a friend builds upto 6 footers not to far away.

Assuming that's inches I think you could easily fit 3 or 4 adult P.waltl in a tank of those dimensions. I have a 4ft tank with 6 or 7 in. When kept in groups they rarely reach the max size of 30cm. 22 - 25cm is more realistic.

Yeah inchs sorry, but thats good to hear :D

Emm another question, I have a few spare bags of aquarium gravel, 2-3mm & 6-8mm
Would either of these do? Or should i get sand?

Forget the gravel. Gravel poses a risk as they may swallow it during feeding, potentially causing impaction. I keep mine in a bare bottomed tank with rocks and floating weeds. You can make it quite attractive with a bit of imagination and makes for easy cleaning.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
