Hey everyone, i just got myself 3 axolotls for my newcastle flat. 2 wild and 1 pink (all born late may).

Cannot believe how curious they are about their tank and what's going on outside it!

I started feeding them bloodworms but they love earth worms so gona build a wee worm farm.

I read up a fair bit on keeping them happy and they don't look stressed so all is well i hope. I do wonder however if i am feeding them enough, i cant seem to find information on the amounts to give them? any advice on that would be great!

Gonna take some pics tomorow, they look great.

At 5 months old you could probably feed them an earthworm each , every other day. If, when looking down on an axolotl, the stomach is wider than the head, then you could be over feeding them. If they look skinny, then feed every day. If you can post a picture of them, then we can give you more accurate advice.

Brilliant! that's about what I've been giving them, they always go mad when its feeding time.

Thanks for the advice, Completely new to these guys but I'm a quick learner so will hopefully be able to help where I can.

Pictures soooon, got to borrow a mates camera now as mine is broken :(

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
