I need urgent help!
When I got home about half an hour I find one of my l.a.alpestris juveniles in agony at the bottom of the tank. He was belly up. Squirmed and can barely move his limbs. I removed the bottom of the tanke not to drown. Now it is a small box with damp paper. Yet still in turmoil. Sometimes he turns around and I put it back up.
What will it last? What do I do? He is dying and can not do anything!
If anyone can help, thank you!

If he was drowning, all you can do is wait. They can recover surprisingly from such a thing if put on land. I´m afraid i can´t give you any better advice.

I've seen this a couple of times in my Ichthyosaura sp. and in friends as well but unfortunately they all ultimately die within 24 hours. Still have no clue what causes it but it seems to affect adults as well.

Thanks guys!
Just read your answers now, but the news is good.
I managed to save him!
The solution was even suggested that the Azhael. He eventually recovered in a terrestrial setup.
Now it would be interesting to discover that this is strange symptom!
For only thus can avoid, is not it?
As he is still in the process of climbing the glass, I thought the purest strains that had been given a bad fall. I did not see it was something else.

cheers

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
