Hello, I have an adorable albino axolotl. My daughter's boyfriend gave it to her a month before she left for college so the little darling is now mine. I had never even heard the term alxolotl until this summer!
My little "axo" watches everything I do and even comes up to take blood worms from me. I never expected such interaction.
They are curious little buggers!

Fantastic pets, aren't they? I just delivered an informative speech about them in my SPC classroom and every slide I turned the class went "Aww...."

Enjoy your Axolotl, and welcome to Caudata.org

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
