I know axies have been known on occasion to bite off a leg or a bit of tail of there comrads. I was wondering how they manage this. They barely have teeth and I can't imagine their jaws are very strong. Does anybody know how they do this?

Have you ever stuck your hand in an axie tank?

Mine are quite feisty and do try to eat my hand.

They have quite a grip on them, and they do a little shake like a dog, as if trying to tear my finger off!!

They have little teethy bits like rough sandpaper, imagine this on an axolotls soft squidgy skin, combined with the dog shake......

I was really surprised by how strong they are for such delicate looking things. Chester took a fancy to the chopsticks I was using to feed them and had one away the other day, cheeky monkey. (he scared the bejeezus out of himself in the process though!)

I once had a tiny little red spot on my finger after 'feeding it to my biggest axie'. They're pretty strong and they shake like dogs to 'tear it in pieces'.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
