Is there a good technique to train Plethodon glutinosus to feed off of forceps? Do the forceps have to be a certain type?

I'm sure if your approach is slow and casual they'll get used to it. They'll eventually feed from forceps if they're not to shy. I have some P. montanus that eat from forceps and not to mention my Ambystomids. Slow and steady and let the food wriggle to trigger a strike. Sounds like fishing! Practice makes perfect. Constantly feed with forceps and they should get the idea. Make it a routine they'll get used to it.

I'd use long thin forceps that leave a safe distance from the target to your hand. I have forceps that about about 5 inches which I consider short. I've seen people use forceps that were double the length of mine. Good luck!

If the worm bit is very small, sometimes a toothpick works better.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
