Hi folks. I was wondering if any of you have used Waterland Tubs? They are made from recycled plastic and are polyethylene. The small size looks absolutely perfect for newts and salamanders! I saw them at a Reptile Show today and I was mighty impressed. :D About Me

I like waterland tubs but they are a bit pricey as compared to rubbermaid or aquariums. Also, couldn't a newt/salamander climb out of one of these being the little escape artists they are? The sides on the smaller ones aren't actually vertical right? I had thought about one of the larger ones for my turtles or axolotls.

I do agree, they are nice. I suppose you could build some sort of top for one.

There is a lid that goes on the small ones that provides a 4" climb-proof rim. You then put a screen or plexi on that based on your requirements. That 'About Me' link is their site.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
