Re: Kitche floor tile safe?

That's really difficult to answer. I would say "probably", but you just don't know what they might put into them in terms of chemicals.

Floor tiles made of natural slate should be safe (I have used them), although there was a case recently of someone having problems with them - slate tiles were leaching some kind of oily substance into the tank, so the person had to remove them. So whatever you use, you should try soaking them first.

I have used kitchen til slate in my tanks...I used it before I decided I wanted to use sand...and I just put the sand over the tile.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
