I have a Jimsonweed (Datura Stramonium) plant next to my newt tank. This plant is extremely poisonous, and its flowers' smell has an emetic effect. Would the newts be affected by the smell of this plant?

emetic, as in throwing up? Oink, I hope it's not next to the dinner table.
I don't know about the newts; is there any chance plant parts may fall into the tank?

Yes, emetic as in throwing up. Very potent, yet beautiful plant. Parts will not fall into the tank. I was mainly concerned with the fact that they might smell it and become ill. How strong is their sense of smell?

I believe their sense of smell is excellent, but scent is more effective under water. I'd say if the newts haven't thrown up yet...they are probably ok

I once grew D. inoxia (picture below) in the same room as some alpine newts- I never had any problems.

Thank you! I'm glad to hear I don't have to move the plant. It's one of the most beautiful plants I've ever seen.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
