I'll be out of town from Dec. 24th-29th. I have a Tylototriton kweichowensis.

Now I'm not really worried about feeding because I know these guys can go for a long time without eating.

My real question is misting the tank. Can I just give it a really nice spray before I leave? If he dries out I'm sure he'll just take a swim right?

Are my assumptions correct and is there anything else I need to consider?

Thanks in Advance.

I don't think there would be a problem about not to be able to mist their tank in 5 days. As long as your tank has dry/wet

areas then there should be no problem. It will just naturally swim when it feels it needs to take a dip in the water.

Just don't forget to feed them when you get back on the 29th so they don't get skinny. =P

You could try sealing the tank against drying to some extent. If you have a screen lid, cover most of the lid with duct tape and/or plastic wrap. Not so much that you cut off the air completely, but enough to reduce drying. Try this for a while prior to your trip and see how long the tank can go without drying out.

Some animals are kind of stupid about seeking out water when they need it. I would not entirely trust the animals to go to the water dish if their substrate dries out.

Another idea would be to supplement their substrate with something that holds water really well, like coco fiber. And soak it well before you leave.

Okay thanks for the help everyone.

I was expecting to see, "take it to a friends house," and I'm glad I did not!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
