Hello I'm new so I am introuducing myself and my pets. I am TwilightsMum. As you may guess I have a pet called Twilight. She has quite an interesting story. She started off as a white axoltol but through a genetic glitch ended up as a leucistic (pink) salamander! Quite a shock! I understand it is quite rare for this to happen on it's own, but it did in her case. She is gorgeous and always smiles like this:  SO cute!

I also have two green wild type axolotls called Bella and Alice. They look almost identical but Bella's back feet are webbed with only four toes. Very cute and unusual. Has anyone else come across this?

Peace out - TwilightsMum.

Re: Introuducing myself and pets

hi im sandra from holland and ive got also 2 axy's! called hella (wildtype) and freya (leucistic) and i think my freya has also just 4 toes on 1 back foot! the other 1 im still in combat with myself if there an inie mini miny tiny toe between 2 large toes in! so that would be a fifth toe on her back foot! but shes only 11 cm big now so i will see whats gonna happen ^^!
i just discovered some yellow dots on her flanks and i first freaked out about it till some1 linked me a post that its kinda common onder the leucistic axo's i believe!

regards sandra

Re: Introuducing myself and pets

Hi Sandra, nice to meet you and thanks for replying. Sounds like our "babies" have a lot in common! Colours, toes, almost one of the names. :)

Your Freya will grown quite a bit bigger. Twilight is 22.5cm and still growing!

Re: Introuducing myself and pets

i cant wait till freya and hella are that size! <3 little is adorable but bigger is awsome ^^
it gives them some attitude that i totally love! but 22,5 is nice! you know how old twilight is or not? than i know what i maybe can expect :p

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
