My albino axolotl just laid several hundred eggs. Never raised any before this. Any suggestions on what I should do with them? I'll be keeping a couple of dozen for observation in my science classroom, and I'm not sure what to do with the others. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

LOL you can always spread them around to people that want to hatch them and take care of them.

Eric sent me some eggs and they ship well. Just put them in a double bag of water with some java moss for the ride or in a full to the top bottle of water for the ride.

I would take a couple more for a diverse gene pool if your gonna mail them out :)

Sell 'em! I wouldn't use java moss; plants actually consume oxygen when they're in the dark, so it would pull oxygen out of the water away from the eggs.

Or if they're still young (not far-developed) you can euthanize them with alcohol and freeze them.

I shipped my eggs with Java moss so they had something to attach to and weren't just floating around in the water I shipped them in. I don't think the short length of time during shipping will be affected enough by the java moss to have any impact whatsoever.

They arrived great and are developing quite nicely. Wish i had a good camera to take daily pics of them to document the development in the egg.

It is simply awesome to look at them every morning and see the difference 8 hours makes!

If you were going to ship the excess I'd be more than happy to take a batch of them. Darn parasites demolished the last batch I had. My Axie stuff is still sitting out and I would love to try again.

Definitely ship them out or euthanise.
You dont want to be stuck with too many to care for.

I have quite a lot at the moment, I have been raising axolotls for nearly two years and even I am at the point of struggling with these guys.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
