Hi I'm 22 and from the UK, I'm mostly into axolotls, I would love to get myself one or a pair at some point, though at the moment I live at home and the answer is a resounding NO, haha.

I'm working on it.

Anyway, I like to have all the info before I get a pet so I'm here to read and go daww at photos of cute salamanders, greetings.

Welcome to the forum!! Just keep telling your mom that they don't smell, don't make sounds, don't tear up the house, and most importantly, they don't pee on the rug. Persistence is key here.;)

Haha yeah and I told her they don't even need feeding every day, not much more work than a demanding plant!

She says they're hideous, she must be converted! :D

Welcome! If you're looking for info on axolotls, go to the axolotl site (look under Caudata.org Sites at the top of the page). And that's the first time I've ever heard of someone saying that an axolotl is hideous! I would personally rather have an axolotl than a puppy. :D

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
