Hi - I'm new to the forum and somewhat new to amphibians. I've kept/ I keep various reptiles and fish. I especially like axolotls, though I also find various newts and salamanders fascinating - as well as adorable. I also am working on building a poison dart frog habitat.

I'm a certified veterinary technician with an interest in wildlife and rehabilitation, as well as an interest in exotics and zoological medicine. I have worked in an exoitcs clinic, mainly with birds, and have trained and worked as part of a educational and free flight demonstration with various birds of prey, including, hawks, falcons, and owls. We have our own "mini zoo" at hour house, with 5 cats, 11 pet rats, 2 lovebirds, 3 cornsnakes, 2 red tail boas, 1 veiled chameleon, 1 leopard gecko, 3 freshwater aquariums (marsh crabs, ghost shrimp, endler livebearers, cory catfish, loaches, plecos, danios, etc), and 10 tarantulas of various species.

I greatly enjoy learning about new animals and their care, needs, specific quirks, etc. I look forward to learning more on this forum, and hope to eventually be able to set up a nice habitat for some axolotls and perhaps other similar animals.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
