Adding a new Tiger Salamander to my tank

I purchased a new Tiger earlier today that is a little smaller (but not much) than the one I currently have. I introduced them in a big bucket so I could clean the tank and rearrange a little bit.

So far everything is going well, but my "older" sally (the one I've had for a while now) keeps sitting on the other one's head. Is this typical? Do they have some type of dominance thing they have to go through or am I in trouble???

Nope, in their tank also. The new one burrowed and "Elmo" (my older one) was sitting on top of his hole. I'm a little worried that he's going to suffocate him!

Or maybe I just have the crazy maternal instinct to keep moving Elmo off the new one....Should I just leave them?

How many hides are in the tank? If there is only 1 then I'd make sure there is at least 3 spread out around the tank to see if this helps. Otherwise just wait and see what happens.

Tigers often lay on top of one another, mine do it all the time. If something is blocking their burrow, they will dig another exit. There will be some dominance of the larger one over the smaller one, but once established they will be fine.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
