I'm new to axolotls and I was wondering how certain individuals have massive, feathery gills whilst others don't. Is it simply down to environmental factors (tanks size, siblings, stress) or is it genetic? My leucistic axie does have pink gills but nothing like the ones at the top of Axolotls: The Fascinating Mexican Axolotl and the Tiger Salamander.
