Welcome to the forum, Clyde. A great resource to start is the Axolotl Site. This should start you on the right track. Then, before asking questions, have a search of the forum. Most questions have already been asked and answered, saving you a lot of time. This function can be found on the very top toolbar, just above where you sign in. Then if you still have questions, ask away!

I've actually been reading and researching for a couple hours. when i saw my first ones i knew i wanted a set of my own but wanted to make sure i could handle them.

i just hope i can actually start posting in different threads to find someone in the utah area. would like a set of juveniles.

Glad to see you're doing your research! Best of luck in your quest. Just don't get too addicted. You might wind up with 200... not that I know from experience or anything. ;)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
