At what point are axies considered juvies?

What exactly defines a juvie vs what defines a larvae?

I guess im looking for a this = larvae
this = juvie
this = sub adult
this = adult

That kinda run down

Re: Lavae to juvie?

I think a juvie is after the larva gets all its legs - like a miniature adult. And I guess an adult is when it's reached it's full size (not sure how long that takes though)

Re: Lavae to juvie?

I consider larvae from no legs to 4 legs, juvenile from 4 legs to 4 or 5 inches, sub-adult from 5 inches to sexual maturity. This is just a rough guide, and I don't think there's any actual definition.

Re: Lavae to juvie?

It's a lot harder to delineate these stages in axolotls than in other newts/sals. I've certainly seen young axolotls with all 4 legs still referred to as larvae (and a newt larva with gills and all 4 legs would certainly still be a larva). I'm going to despair here, and say I can't come up with any criteria that work.

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
