Hi everyone. My 60 litre tank is being set up to house my first axie. It came with an elite stingray filter which doesn't seem too popular on the forums. Ive seen the eheim aquaball recommended, is this ok for a tank of my size?

Also could a second axie be introduced at some stage or would you recommend upgrading to a bigger tank for this?

any filter appropriate for the size of your tank should do as long as it does not create a current and turns over the tank water fully a few times every hour. undergravel filters and air powered filters are usually not recommended, as they are not very efficient as axies make alot of waste.

I personally use a Elite hang on the back cascade filter, appropriate for the size of my tank and it works great and turns over the water well without making too much current.

Bear in mind that internal power filters can raise the temperature slightly, as axies enjoy cooler water this is something to consider.

the usual recommendation is 40 gallons per animal.

and last of all, a picture of your new setup would be great!

Thanks for the advice.

My tank is work in process and still quite bare. Will get some photos up when theres a bit more to look at .

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
