Hi,

I'm Robyn and I've been reading this forum over the past couple of weeks, and today finally got our first amphibians - 2 fire salamanders!

They don't have names as yet, but we're thinking hard!

As I said, they're our first amphibians, but have a *few* other pets. We have 2 guinea pigs, 6 red foot tortoises, 2 geyri uromastyx, a xenagama, a bosc monitor and an ackie monitor.

No doubt I'll have a lot of questions over the next few days to make sure my set up is correct and we're doing the best we can for them.

Nice to meet you all

Congratulations on your new additions and welcome to the forum.
I have some fire salamanders and still have not named them :(, in fact the only caudata I have named are the axolotl. I Iook forward to reading more about them.

We're glad to have you, Robyn. Welcome to you and your zoo!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
