When I first got my Axo she had nice red gill filaments, now they're all almost black and some of them are shrivelled.

Why is it so?

Lack of O2?
Low pH?
High temp?
Sign of stress?
All of the above?

Anyone who can shed some light on this would be much appreciated.

It could be any of the factors, or one you didn't list. Could you give us important info like substrate, ammonia/nitrite/nitrate levels, diet and maybe a picture of her?

Heya,

Currently in the middle of swapping substrate and getting the tank back on it's feet while my axo has a holiday in the fridge.

Was kind of hoping it would be something specific rather than a general sign of ill health.

Thanks for the reply I will get some pictures later today and post them.

Cheers,
